Changing With the Season
Fall is supposed to be prime time for pumpkins and mums, whose colorful presence graces every front porch after the equinox, but the truth is nothing can steal the spotlight from the real stars of the show – the turning leaves.
Splendid ruby colored burning bushes, gold and red sugar maples, canary yellow frilly acacias, endless gradients of green, orange and purple that have got to touch the heart of even the most sullen cynic.
Nature is splendid in its glory and has no bad seasons.
There is no ugly garden time: in winter it projects dramatic jewel tones of berries and evergreens against a pure white background, in spring it shivers in crude shades of green and pink like a misty watercolor, in summer it dazzles with flowers and scents and endless abundance, and in fall it puts up a display of color so overwhelmingly brilliant it almost makes you forget how much work it’s going to take to clean it all up when it’s over.
