Winter Aromatherapy
Planting the bulbs marked the end of this year’s gardening activities, and not a moment too soon: winter is coming in style, and it seems it prefers to follow the calendar this year, rather than wait for the solstice.
I like to celebrate the yearly retreat indoors with indulgent pampering: time for winter aromatherapy.
The fragrances match the season, of course: cinnamon and cloves for pot-pourri, balsam fir and pine for scented candles and essential oil diffusers, sweet notes of vanilla, sugar and lemon for serums and lotions, sugared cranberries and grapefruit for bath salts.
Skin needs extra loving care in cold weather, and welcomes facial treatments, rich creams and masks made with coconut oil, cocoa butter, heavy cream, eggs and honey.
Winter aromatherapy is good for the soul.
Citrus, peppermint and balsam fir aromas energize and brighten the mood; they make you forget about the ever shortening days and their dimming light.
