seashell cosmos
Very understated, these flowers. They usually grow with abandon in sun-drenched meadows and give you an eye full of every shade of pink, white and magenta imaginable.
I remember playing with their colorful petals when I was a child, they are the perfect shape and color for pretend false nails.
Of course my variety didn’t grace me with flowers this summer, so I kind of abandoned the hope of seeing what they looked like, since I never planted this variety before.
I’m not sure how many fellow gardeners have experienced the “flowers on the packet, leaves in the garden” phenomenon. I’ve had my full share of these, but I didn’t expect the cosmos to give me a hard time. After all they grow wild and tend to be kind of invasive.

So after a completely unrewarding summer, I finally got flowers. Kind of pretty…
