desaturated color

Stop playing with the photo editor! The landscape looks depressing!
This is all the color available to the eye this, what you see right here. Not fair, right?

In a burst of gardening enthusiasm I borrowed a book from the library, to learn more about old rose breeds.

Some you can’t even find anymore, I guess even the professionals got fed up with the amount of maintenance they require, and besides, my garden is not friendly to roses, but it’s always nice to have an aspirational goal.

I would like to add an old rose to the sunny border this year, a perpetual variety with hundreds of petals and strong fragrance. The resident Damask looks reasonably happy, so maybe that family has potential.

I haven’t checked the nursery catalogs for bare root roses yet, but I’m sure they’ve all been picked clean last fall, by the time February rolls around there is not much left in stock. Maybe I should give up and choose a landscaping variety. Those don’t seem fussy about blooming or maintenance.

From the shiny pages of the book a decadent blush noisette beckons. Ok, maybe just this once.
