urban beekeeping
For all bee keeping enthusiasts out there, here is a photo in anticipation of spring. Given the limitations of living in dense communities, not many of us can experience the joy of seeing the friendly industrious bees hard at work, although believe it or not, it can be done. I’m talking about urban beekeeping.
I know, I know, you can’t just keep a hive anywhere, zoning regulations are different, you need to make sure your “livestock” is not a nuisance, you need to take additional steps, like raising the fence or providing water, and if your back yard is not particularly large, the situation can become slightly crowded at times. There is of course the big prize of an ever widening grin as you munch on a fresh honeycomb in the morning or sit back to listen to the busy hum while sipping on your coffee during a moment’s peace. Still not convinced?
I would like to ask the skeptical reader, for whom urban beekeeping sounds like an unusual proposition, to take a look at the rest of the pictures in Jonathan Dy‘s “Urban Beekeeping inVancouver” photography album.
