home made soap
Here is a little project that will make good use of your infused oils and will give a touch of spa to your bathroom decor. You can use whimsy and personalize these little soaps to your heart’s content, play with color, fragrances, shapes and stencils.
The process used here is called soap rebatching: it is smell free and low clean-up, avoids scorching and is guaranteed to work. You will need a good fragrance free soap, white if possible, scented oils (mint and basil are obvious choices, but please blend fragrances any way you like), and some glycerin if you have it.
Grate the soap on the small grater and place it in a zip-lock bag, together with a tablespoon of scented oil and a teaspoon of glycerin. Squeeze all the air out of the bag and seal. Place in another zip-lock bag, squeeze the air out and seal. Place the bag in a pot of boiling water and leave on low heat on the stove until the soap melts. Mix as well as you can, carefully, since the contents will be hot. When completely blended and pourable, spray some cooking oil on candy or cupcake moulds, cut a corner of the baggie and squeeze in the liquid soap. Place the moulds in the refrigerator to solidify and then stencil and decorate them as you like.
If the soap is really dry, add a little fresh milk or cream, olive or almond oil or more glycerin.
