happy new year!

Happy New Year everybody! Courtesy of the gloriously lush Florida landscapes, a beautiful pink hibiscus. We left there right before the freeze and I took this picture when the temperature was a balmy 78 degrees. I hope things got back to normal. The bougainvilleas were simply covered in flowers and there was perfume in the air, I don’t know exactly from what flowers.

2011 ended with toasts and cheers, visits with friends and eating way too much, and upon entering the new year the temperatures dropped to the low 40s. To solve this conundrum we headed back north where the thermometer struggled upwards to a cozy 20 degrees. As Epiphany approaches (January 6th) weather patterns and folks’ wisdom say that Winter brings the coldest temperatures of the year. Apparently this year Epiphany freeze came early, since for now both short and long range weather forecasts predict mild and humid weather.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish my fellow gardeners and the garden bloggers at blotanical.com a very happy new year and abundant gardens.
