Roseraie de l’Hay was the first rose to bloom this year. Many more to come, though, by the number of buds waiting to open. All the rose bushes are absolutely covered in them, it looks like it’s going to be a very good year for roses, we’re having the June bloom in May.
There is perfume in the humid warm air that feels almost tropical, from the southern magnolia, no doubt. Today I spent some time watching a baby cardinal bird learn how to fly. The parent birds were completely incensed by my uncalled for proximity and the picture taking, and they made every noise available in their vocabulary to make me go away. I respectfully did and took the cat with me too, I thought that might help.
