No, this is not an orchid. I kind of abandoned the expectation to see any flowers on this plant since it didn’t bloom last year and I moved it to an even shadier location in spring. I have to say that the wait was worth it: can you believe this flower? The best part about it is that it blooms in complete shade in mid-October, early November. It took me by surprise because I didn’t pay attention to the blooming time when I bought it, and everything else is preparing for winter already.
The worst part about this beauty is its name: Toad Lily. Such a plebeian name for such a noble flower. It is not scented and purple Dalmatian is the only color it comes in. The flowers are quite tiny, you need to plant it in a location where you can get really close to them.
I should have planted more, but since I never saw it in bloom I didn’t think there was a point to it. Definitely more of them next year.
